In looking back on my previous posts and talking some people here in Big Spring, perhaps I need to clarify the purpose of my blog. I simply want to give insight to our lives as we adjust to a new situation. So, I tend to focus on the struggles and to find the comedy in it. Sherry and I are thankful to be in Big Spring. We love the people and we love the church. The wind, the gnats, the roaches, and all the rest are nothing but silly topics to write about. In fact, there will be more to come!
Today I learned a $64 lesson. Without going into much detail, I secured a storage unit for us to use until we find a house. The apartment cannot hold all our "stuff" so we need some relief. However, after putting down the $64, the church offered to let us use some unused space in the church building for storage. There is a "no refund" policy at the storage place so I lost the bucks. Once again, as I have been known to do, I got ahead of the Lord and paid the price. Will I ever learn?

Roaches
Alright, now I have had it. The gnats were bad enough (thankfully they are gone), now the roaches have moved in. They have been found in the kitchen and in the living area. Hershey spots them and we go into action.
Black Flag is now our best friend. Once the roach is sprayed, it is dead. I mean it turns over on its back and gives up the ghost. I know all of God's creatures have a place in this world, but our apartment is not that place!
Sherry has been dreaming about these roaches and hopefully the roaches will not decide to sleep in the bed with her. I just have to be careful she does not start slapping me in her sleep thinking I am a roach! So I keep my distance.
We have been promised the bug man will be here on Wednesday to exterminate our little guests. So once the roaches are gone, I wonder what plague will be next. Please, no frogs!

The Weather
The weather is certainly interesting in west Texas. One minute the sky is brown with dirt flying around while the wind blows constantly. It can be hot during the day, but at night it is cool. And, thankfully, the humidity is almost nil! Yet, we were not prepared for Saturday night when the hail came.
While dining in Midland, the rain began and soon there was the thud of hail falling on the roof - and our car! As soon as we could finish eating, we drove home only to catch up with the storm and drive through the hail again. It was blinding at times. But, we made it home.
When we arrived home, I decided to put my truck under the covered parking at the bank across the street before the hail arrived. But, the parking lot was filled to overflowing with cars from who knows where! Finally, I found one last spot in the bank drive-thru two blocks away.
Sherry and I are enjoying the changing weather because it is always a challenge to decide what to wear for the day! As I write these words, the weatherman said, "Changes are on the way." Great, now it will probably snow! Whatever happens, though, there is nothing I can do about it.
I am glad God did not give me the authority to control the weather. My only job is to talk about it - and rejoice in the fact that God created the forces of nature. Everything God created is good. In fact, God is good. There is no one like my God!

Settling in...
Well, we are here. Big Spring has officially become our hometown! Apartment living is not so bad. It provides a close environment for Sherry and me to get to know one another again! However, having to get dressed in the middle of the night to walk the dogs to their favorite spots outside to...you know... is getting a bit old. I am thinking about giving them their own key and telling them to lock the door after they are finished.
House hunting is slow. The house for us has yet to surface, but we are in no hurry (unless the dog at night thing gets the best of me). We have a roof over our heads and food in the refrigerator. What else do we need? In God's time He will move us into that dream home. The Lord was faithful to sell our house in Sheridan in three days, so He will be faithful to give us the house reserved just for us.
Our new church has been wonderful. The people here are so loving and kind. I hope this "honeymoon" lasts for a while! On our first Sunday, a water line to the church burst so we cancelled Sunday School and met for worship. It was a great day. The people are starting to realize what they got in me, so I hope they are not disappointed...yet! Sunday night was a church-wide talent fair. I wanted to throw the axe, but decided against it. So, I juggled. it was mediocre at best.
Good days are ahead!

Here I am again...
After hearing from all my "fans" about my absence from the blog world, I have conceded. I have been so busy wrapping up things in Sheridan, selling the house, packing, getting ready for a move, and a shopping trip to Dallas that I simply have not had the time - nor energy - to update the blog. But, I am back!!
God has been so amazing throughout this transition from Arkansas to Texas. After putting the house on the market, it sold within four days. The Lord has provided for our needs every step of the way. We are ready to settle down in Big Spring and to get to work!
In preparing to show the house, Sherry and I cleaned out the refrigerator and freezer. Our ice maker has not worked for 6 months since a repairman worked on the refrigerator last year. So, we have bought ice or "borrowed" ice from the church. However, I discovered a previous unknown feature of our Maytag. On the inside of the freezer door is a switch which says, "Ice Maker On - Ice Maker Off". Yes, you guessed it, the switch was turned to off. We now have ice!
Life is never dull around the Lindsey house!
My posts may be sporadic for the next few days as we make the move west. I am sure there will be much to tell, so stay tuned!

My youngest...
Having mentioned my oldest daughter, I must also give attention to my youngest daughter, Kimberly. She is about to graduate from Ouachita Baptist University in May with her B.A. in Biblical Studies and marry, June 20th, Alex Beasley, a student at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Kim's heart is so tender for the Lord. She, along with Alex, have a love for young people in the church. God is going to use them in a mighty way in serving Him! She has a personality that will not quit - her father's daughter! ;) I am proud of both my daughters.
It is amazing how the Lord can bless Sherry and me with two children who love the Lord. I am not worthy! We have been praying for our daughters' spouses and our grandchildren from the days Kristen and Kimberly were born. Now, some 20+ years later, we are laying eyes on the answers to our prayers. Alex and Ozzie are tremendous young men who have a passion for the Lord and a commitment to serve Him. God is good!
The Bible affirms, Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord... (Psalm 127:3) Kristen and Kim are the Lord's. We have just been the caretakers.
